A September to Remember
Hi There,
I’ve been lazy lately and should have gotten some of this out sooner. However, much of it has just either come about or been decided. So, grab a beer and sit down (preferably on a deck or beer garden somewhere) – here we go!
Finally, we’re almost back into full production. All our fermenters are filled in the Tech Center Brewery and all but one in the Sunshine Canyon Brewer. And that means all the taps in the taproom and beer garden bars are going to be filled very soon – plus we’ll have some new and old favorite beers coming out soon:
- Our Oktoberfest beer is out – on tap and in cans. This has been a favorite for the last two years, so we brewed 30 bbls of it this year. Look for it at your favorite local liquor store.
- Lulu’s Lager will soon be released in cans, so look for it in your favorite liquor store, at Lulu’s BBQ in Louisville and in our taproom.
- 13 IPA will soon be back on tap, maybe even by tomorrow.
- South Ridge Amber is scheduled to be packaged on Saturday, so should be on tap by Monday, August 30, 2021.
- Our American Stout is scheduled to be packaged on August 29th, so it could be on tap by Monday as well.
- This one is a biggy – we recently brewed Wuerzburger again. We first released it in August 2014.
- For those of you unfamiliar with this beer, it was a beer brewed by the original Crystal Springs Brewing Company back in the early days of the 20th century. While we’ve never been able to find any of the original recipes for the beers they made, there was a Daily Camera article published in 1905 (thanks for finding it Mr. Sinner!) that described Wuerzburger in detail – enough so, that I was able to create a recipe from it which we believe is close to the original. The result is a Helles Bock or MaiBock that we first released years ago. It is happily fermenting and should be ready by early September.
- As you may know, the Louisville Historical Museum is celebrating its 35th anniversary in September. As part of that celebration, the Louisville Historical Foundation has instigated a series of events, both to celebrate the anniversary and to raise funds for the Museum. We will be one of five signature “historic experiences” throughout downtown Louisville. We will have Wuerzburger on tap, donating $1 of each Wuerzburger beer sold to the Foundation. We will also have information and displays of our history and the history of the original Crystal Springs Brewery (which most likely supplied beer for the citizens of Louisville from 1896 – 1916). To add to the fun, note that the building our taproom is in was built in 1890.
- Lastly, I happen to own the only original bottle (empty, sadly) of Crystal Springs Brewing and Ice Company’s Wuerzburger (see picture above).
- We also just brewed a new pale ale that I think you’re going to love. It is on the low end in alcohol (around 5%) but big on flavor. A great beer for the waning hot days of summer. Should be ready mid-September.
I’d like to take a moment to give a big thank you to our local teachers. Kristy and I were both teachers much of our careers and we know how hard it can be to teach in normal times. With remote teaching last year and now the problems the country is having with the Delta variant, our teachers are facing the daunting task of dealing with it and trying to make sure students get caught up. To show our appreciation and gratitude to them, we are offering all teachers (public, private, college) a 10% discount on all purchases in our taproom the entire month of September. Just show your teacher ID.
On an entirely different note, we are sponsoring the First Annual Crystal Springs Brewing Charity Golf Tournament at Coal Creek Golf Course on September 16, 2021. This year the proceeds will go to Ramble on Pearl, a nonprofit social enterprise supporting adults with developmental disabilities achieve their goals of independent developmental disabilities achieve their goals of independent community employment. Because of the pandemic, we have not been able to donate as much as we’d like to charity. We were approached earlier this year by Bucky Dilts with the idea of sponsoring an annual charity golf tournament that would support different charities each year. Kristy’s father, Wally, was the golf coach at Boulder High School for many years (Hale Irwin was one of his protégés) and Kristy grew up with a golf club in her hand. Her father started the Hale Irwin Golf Tournament to support students and, after his death, Kristy ran it for years – so this idea seemed right up her alley. The tournament is almost full, but if you are interested, please email me.
We will be open this Labor Day from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Oh! The Garage/Beer Garden/Summer Bar is OPEN – every Friday and Saturday.
I hope you’re safe, well and happy and enjoying a beer with friends, family or other loved ones.
Cheers, Tom
Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.
