Our Story

Crystal Springs Brewing Company is the result of a dream that started brewing (literally) over 30 years ago. Back in 1988, my son suggested we try making beer. With no homebrew shops around, we tracked down ingredients from “Colonel John” and grabbed a copy of Charlie Papazian’s book—still have that original, dog-eared copy! Our first batch wasn’t just drinkable—it was actually pretty good. We were hooked!

From there, the brewing bug never left. In the late 2000s, I started dreaming about opening a brewery. It felt impossible, but my amazing wife Kristy kept cheering me on. With her support, that crazy dream became a reality.

Since 2010

On May 13, 2010, our dream came true. It was my friend, Rick Sinner, who first suggested the idea of using the name Crystal Springs Brewing Company for the brewery. The first brewery located in Boulder was a brewery called Boulder City Brewing (later Crystal Springs Brewing and Ice Company).

Frank Weisenhorn and Charles Voegtle founded it in 1875; the same year that Boulder Prep (now Boulder High School) was founded. In 1898, Samual Pell purchased the brewery and the name was changed to Crystal Springs Brewing and Ice Company – thus, the inspiration for the name.

The Craft

At Crystal Springs Brewing Company, brewing in small batches gives us the freedom to experiment, adapt, and innovate in ways the big breweries simply can’t. This flexibility allows us to perfect our craft and create unique beers that stand out. We proudly offer a selection of year-round favorites, available in six-packs, while constantly exploring new recipes and releasing limited batches in our taprooms.

Every pour is a chance to try something special, and we’re confident you’ll love what you taste. We’re always brewing up something exciting, so there’s always a reason to look forward to what’s next. Cheers!
